Coverage

Markel Museums protects every facet of your organization, from your artwork and archives to your volunteers and visitors.

If your organization runs a children's camp, Markel Museums can protect your camp, too.

Liability Coverage

General Liability: A must for all organizations, general liability insurance protects you if you are sued by someone who claims that you caused their physical injury or damaged their property. Markel Museums offers limits of $1 million per occurrence/$3 million aggregate.

Umbrella Liability: Provides extra protection for catastrophic events. Umbrella liability goes into effect after you’ve exceeded the limits of your general or auto liability insurance. Limits up to $10 million are available.

Special Events Liability: Most not-for-profit organizations rely on fund-raisers and other special events for some part of their funding. If someone is injured at your event, this coverage protects you.

Directors' & Officers' Liability: This coverage pays the costs to defend your not-for-profit's directors or board members if they are sued for decisions they've made.

Professional Liability: Protects curators and librarians who care for or authenticate art, manuscripts, and historic documents.

Products/Completed Operations Liability: If your organization operates a gift shop or snack bar, this coverage protects you if someone claims you sold defective or dangerous products.

Off-Premises Activities Liability: If your organization visits schools, businesses, or other public facilities, this coverage safeguards you if one of your staff members or volunteers is injured.

Accident Medical Liability: This coverage pays visitors’ medical bills (up to the policy limit) if they are injured at your facility and have no insurance of their own, or their bills exceed what their insurance pays. You can think of accident medical insurance as a goodwill gesture—by paying a visitors’ medical bills now, you may be able to avoid a lawsuit later.

Volunteers as Additional Insureds: When your organization uses volunteers, they're acting on your behalf. This coverage defends their unintentional negligent acts as it defends your own.

Property Coverage

Historic Buildings and Unique Property: This optional endorsement provides building valuation on a “like kind” property replacement basis. If you have a covered loss, this ensures that your property will be rebuilt or repaired using historic materials or those most closely matching the original materials.

Property: Covers systems breakdown (mechanical, electrical, or pressure systems), business personal property, and buildings.

Collections Coverage

Fine Arts: Provides complete coverage for your collection, including special coverage for pairs or sets.

Transit: Protects your collection while it is in transit if you ship items to other museums for exhibition, repair, or restoration.

Property Off Premises: Protects your collection while it is on loan at another museum.

Other Coverage

Inland Marine: Covers valuable papers, EDP, signs, and miscellaneous articles.

Crime: Covers employee dishonesty, theft of money and securities, and forgery.
